I have to admit that I did something last night that I once read about in a book (Angela's Ashes, in case you're wondering). I read it before I had children and thought 'I know I'll love my kids but I can't imagine ever doing that.'
Poor little Rosie has a cold again and she's really congested. Last night she couldn't breathe through her nose and the decongestant, nose drops, humidifier, Vicks rub and Olbas oil were making very little difference. She was laying next to me snuffling and then taking big gasping breaths through her mouth before snuffling again. Tossing and turning, unable to get comfortable or be comforted without her dummy, which was just frustrating her when she couldn't breathe through her nose. I kept thinking about the book and finally in desperation I did it. I sucked the snot out of her nose. It actually wasn't as disgusting as I thought. I just sucked it out, spit it into a tissue and it was done. Rosie was so happy to be able to breathe freely again and she rolled over and went straight to sleep. I guess it was worth it but I hope I never have to do it again.

Oh, K, you have really made me laugh. What you need is one of those elaborate Japanese bulb, hose, and non-return valve jobbies. First time C saw one of those he said, "You get right on that. I'll be over here, being sick"
Hope your wee one feels better soon.
That's the same kinda love that lets you offer your child your bare hand to blow in when there's not a tissue handy.. (who me? done that? noooo) or the love that allows us to gracefully pick bogeys out of our children's noses (or off their hands if they've gotten there first) when we think others aren't looking..
<3 (that's a nerdy way to draw a heart, by the way - not a gang sign!)
