A friend came over with her boys today. It was great to see them and Tobes and I baked cookies before they got here so it was a freezing cold day but we had warm cookies to eat. After an hour or so Tobes got 'over stimulated' and started pushing and hitting the other little boy. After half a dozen time outs Tobes was still cranky and resentful. Meanwhile, I had half my hair hanging out of my ponytail on one side and a stonking headache.
I have got to get this kid into a playgroup or preschool. I think it would be good for him to socialise with other children more regularly and learn that there are rules, not just 'Mommy rules', but real Rules of Behavior. And, to be quite honest, I would benefit from a little time away from him. We're together almost 24 hours a day and I mean that quite literally as he ends up in our bed most nights. I little separation would be a good thing. The problem is that there are waiting lists for everything. Tobes is down for a great preschool but they can't take him until September. At the moment I'm not sure either of us will survive until then. I'm making calls and even did a little begging and pleading today but no luck yet.
And somehow I'm still pining for another baby! Did two more tests today and they were both still negative. I need a counter on this site to keep up with my testing. It's ridiculous but I figure what the hey. We do what we can to stay as close to sane as possible. If peeing on a stick makes me feel a little bit better, then so be it.
So, for the record:
Days until my period is due: 6
Days before a period that these tests are effective: 3
Number of tests taken: 3
Number of positive results: 0
Number of times I thought I saw a line and then realised that no, there was no line: countless
And, in the spirit of sharing here's the recipe for the cookies we made today:
One box of cake mix, any flavour (Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines are best)
1/3 cup of oil (I used sunflower but vegetable is good too)
2 eggs
Mix it all together, form into balls and flatten onto a baking tray. Bake at 180C/345F for about 8 minutes. Very easy so Toby can help out and very yummy.

i've totally been checking your site almost as much as you're wee'ing on a stick! it's so nice to know i'm not alone with semi-weird behaviour and i totally agree that you have to do what you have to do to stay 'up'. so you go girl.. wee away! (but i dread to think what it's costing - i hope you buy those suckers in BULK!)
thanks for the cookie idea - mary catherine and i will have to put on our aprons and give them a go. i can't imagine what they'd end up like.... cos you know, cake mix is for like.. um. cake. d'oh.
on the toby front - is a childminder an option? or even a nanny share? i'm willing to take him one friday so you can have a little time, if you like. mary catherine would love that idea! :) think about it...
Yep, I buy my tests from a medical supply site - www.medisave.co.uk for anyone who's interested - and they're about a tenth of the price of the High Street.
The cookies are great. They are a bit cake-y but that can be nice. Mom makes them using a box of cake mix and a tub of Cool Whip and that's it. Never seen Cool Whip in England though.
I will definitely think about the idea of a Friday off. I'm really hoping I can find a regular preschool though for a couple mornings a week. You know what it's like though, lots of waiting lists and usually expensive. Ho hum.
trust me, my nursery fees are like a second mortgage! oh cool whip! i'd give a toe or two for some of that right now!
ok, i tried to leave you words of encouragement and i ended up almost being a blogger myself! how DO you get the damn thing to work?! anyway, this is mc's nana and 'liz'a mom, i wanted to let you know i admire you for being a SATHM, for entertaining BOYS and for making cookies. and please, quit weeing on sticks! god may be thinking you cannot possibly raise another wonderful child because you would lose her in the loo since you are spending so much time there! however, 'liz and i did carry a stick into the loo at costco in washington dc one time! and she nearly stroked out when she pee'd on a stick just to prove andrew wrong!! hang in there. only children aren't that bad...i raised a pretty good one myself. so, about the cool whip and diets...try cool whip lite on a few soda crackers and you have the best thing on earth! wow...i am a blogger! much love, nana
Wow! I have a comment from MC's Nana. I feel like a real blogger now. [does a little dance]
I will definitely remember the Cool Whip tip for May when I'm back in the States! I'll add it to my list of things to eat which includes Velveeta queso, birthday cake, Chips Ahoy cookies, etc, etc. It seems I only go home to eat!
oh my word...english birthday cakes can be either the best or the pits for sure! shall i bring you some cookies in just 3 weeks? chips ahoy are grumpa's favorite as well..we can meet at blue water, skip the nandos and go straight for the krispy kreems and chips ahoy! i'll bring the organic milk from tesco so we can make sure we eat healthy! I am sure mary catherine and tobes will want to be part of that party..and after all, it will be my birthday, so what do you say?
That sounds like heaven. How many Weight Watchers points do you think there are in a Krispy Kreme? Who cares!
don't know, don't care how many points are in a birthday KK! shall i bring semi skim milk? see you soon. go to bed...you have had a long day! just got home and have discovered the grumpa didn't empty the dishwasher (we have a full size one here!), so i have done that, changed our bed, folded a load of tidy whities and put them away, vac'd 2,000 square feet and am off to write my name in the dust! not cooking either! free meal at the church...methodist church's like to pass the plate when 2 or more are gathered..fortunately tonight it is the plate of spaghetti, not the offering plate! BUT, while i am in the presence of the lord, i will talk to him about all the negatie things you are experiencing lately. who knows, i may have more pull than i think! sweet dreams. i just love having my "girls" to mother long distance!!!
