Had a really lovely weekend. J and Tobes went out for their weekly breakfast together on Saturday morning and then, in a break with tradition, decided to go to Borough Market and wander around the food stalls, salivating and buying little treats. I slept late, had a leisurely breakfast and shower and was ready to see their treasures when they got home. They bought kumquats, figs, and a special treat for me - a black truffle.
We spent the day looking at different areas of Blackheath and trying to decide how much we would compromise on the area in which we'll live. We really want to be as close to the village as possible but there's just nothing available at the moment. I'm not going to start pulling my hair out just yet but give me a week or two and I could be doing a good Kojak impression. After Blackheath we were feeling a bit deflated so we decided to go out to Canary Wharf.
I'm planning an American Mom & Baby/Toddler get-together this week through the US alumni clubs in London and I wanted to check out the Starbucks where we're meeting. We bummed around Canary Wharf for a while, had a coffee, bought some bagels and came home.
Tobes was exhausted and went to sleep early so J and I had a nice evening together. J made fresh egg pasta with butter and black truffle for dinner. Then he cut the figs, stuffed them with camembert, covered them in honey and roasted them in the oven. It was delicious and a real treat.
On Sunday we met up with J's boss from Tokyo and his wife at Tate Modern. They're in London for a week or so and it's been ages since we've seen them. The last time I saw Gayle I was about 20 weeks pregnant with Tobes so I looked exactly the same on Sunday. I explained to her that I wasn't STILL pregnant but just pregnant again. I don't think even elephants gestate for three years. We had lunch in the top floor restaurant overlooking the Thames which is lovely and very child-friendly. They change the menu often depending what's in season so it's always really fresh and delicious. English asparagus is in season now so I had asparagus with toasted brioche and a poached duck egg. So yummy.
After lunch we picked up a treasure hunt game from the Education programme they run called Start and then we all helped Toby look for the various images in the works of art. He had a brilliant time and I really enjoyed being in a museum again.
On our way home we stopped for dinner in Blackheath. By the time we got home Tobes and I were exhausted. By 9.00 I was in bed and fast asleep.
It was such a nice weekend. I'm feeling so happy right now and to think it was just last week that I was so depressed and homicidal. Oh the passive-agressive manic-depressive joys of pregnancy!
