Birthday party and disco brunch

Had a lovely weekend. We went up to Cambridge yesterday for Jenny & Kieran's little girl Kate's 3rd birthday party. It was a princess theme so Toby took his knight costume. Jenny was her usual creative self and the party was a big hit. Lots of food, games and fun for the kiddos and a chance for the grown-ups to chat. The highlight of the party for me was when Tobes was in his knight costume and a pretty little girl in a pink fairy costume came up to him and said 'I'll be your princess if you want me to." Toby's reply, "OK, but we need a dragon."

After the party we went back to Jenny & Kieran's to hang out, let the children play and have dinner. Jenny was my first friend in England. We met when we worked together at Cambridge University way back in '94. We lived across the hall from each other for a year when she and Kieran moved into Chichester House which stands out as one of the happiest years of my life. She and Kieran are like family so time spent with them is always special.

Today we went into London and met up with Elizabeth, Andrew and the lovely Mary Catherine for brunch. We went to Smiths of Smithfield in the heart of the City. We hadn't realised that it was the seventh birthday of Fabric, a very cool London nightclub next door to SOS which has a dancefloor beneath the restaurant. They were celebrating with an all night party that ended at noon today which meant that our brunch was accompanied by a vibrating, pounding beat. It was an opportunity to dust off some dance moves and Elizabeth and I giggled and took advantage of our right to occasionally be typical noisy Americans as we got the children to do the cabbage patch and the snake. Even Rosie was bopping her head along and Elizabeth and I threatened to go next door but weren't sure they would let us in wearing our weekend 'Mom gear'.

We did manage to snag some party favours. They were handing out oven mitts (yes, oven mitts) with 'LOVE' and 'BAKE' on the knuckles of the mitts. Strange but apparently very cool.
