Tea party

Last Friday I hosted a coffee morning here at the house. I don't know what we call it in Texas. It's just a group of women and children getting together to play, drink coffee, eat cakes and gossip. I guess in Texas we call that a weekday.

It was great and I'm doing it again this Friday. It's the school sports day which doesn't start until 10.30 so everyone can come back here for coffee and a chat at 9.00 after school drop-off and we can all walk back to sports day together. Brenda, Jason's mum, is coming to stay with us for a few days so it'll be a good chance for her to meet Toby and Rosie's friends and their parents.

Of course, Friday is also the 4th of July. I don't usually do much, if anything, for the 4th anymore but I thought I would make some little strawberry and blueberry tarts and arrange them in the shape of the flag on the table. I've also ordered some stars and stripes napkins. We might not have fireworks but we can at least recognise that it's a special day.

I always get homesick around the American holidays and this year is no different. I talked to Kellie on the phone yesterday for an hour and a half and my face hurt from laughing afterwards. This morning I got the invitation to the Black family reunion on 12 July. I would so love to go. I love London and I love our life here but it would be nice to have some kind of instant teleportation device that I could use to have a drink with Kellie after the kids were asleep or go shoppng with Mom or nip over for the reunion for the day. I'd settle for a private jet.

My mom is over from the States now.. so she and I are going to go bore MC's class on Friday about the 4th of July. :)

I'll wave a flag in your general direction!

I think a personal jet is a reasonable request.
